Buyer Behavior 2

1) The three different people I interviewed were in the ''Greek'' community.

2) In asking these individuals about how they would choose in alternative parking to the limited campus options, they almost all decided separately that the most important factors were the location as in how close to where they needed to be on campus the spots were, and the pricing of parking there would be. Apart from that the safety of their scooters mattered but that didn't seem to be much of an issue in most places.

3) These individuals are definitely more likely and comfortable paying online through a debit or credit card in which there isn't a necessity to visit a location in person to complete the transaction. According to some of the individuals I spoke to, this option would greatly benefit their ability to succeed in school which led them to believe that their parents would be willing to pay for it. The ability to pay online would make this option much easier.

4) A big thing that encouraged these individuals to want to purchase a parking spot and view it as a "right" purchase, was the fact that it would facilitate getting on campus and to class on time. This then led them to believe an improvement in grades and involvement. If the distance was far enough to believe that it wouldn't help them academically then it would most likely be viewed as a bad idea.

5) The first person I spoke to was my friend Frieda who is in a sorority here at the University of Florida. She had spoken about the troubles parking on campus had caused her previously. She explained that any alternative near campus would be incredibly valuable to her, yet there was currently no options. I also spoke to my good friend Mitch in a fraternity on campus. He explained to me that near where his house was there were plenty of spots but when you moved towards the more popular areas things got much worse. He said that he had explained this issue to his parents and that they would be more than willing to pay for a parking spot that would help him make it to class on time. The third person I spoke to was Michelle who is also in a sorority off campus. She told me she almost never goes on campus with this scooter other than class because of the parking issues. She explained how surprised she was that no one had already made an alternative to campus parking and expressed how necessary it was that someone do something about it. She assured me that she would be one of the first customers if it were created.

6) Through the interviews I conducted and speaking to others, it appears this segment is eager for a parking alternative and would be willing and able to pay for the available spots. It would be considered a valuable purchase due to the way this segment would see it as benefiting them academically.

  1. Rob,

I agree that parents being able to pay online with a debit or credit card would help college students out a lot. Not to mention I think parents would feel more comfortable that their money is going towards actual parking and not other things. They also have meters downtown Charlestons that takes credit or debit cards instead of just coins. This could be a good method as well.

  2. Rob,
I also think the online or card payment would be very useful. In fact an idea that popped into my mind as you start to develop the business plan is promoting the best parking spots. Maybe the first couple people that buy a parking pass will get the best spots on the lot that way it incentivizes people to invest early. Ive realized that parents will eat that up, because they always want the best for their child and don't want them to "lose out" on anything.
